About the position

Neural is looking for a proactive and mission-aligned HR / People Operations Lead to join us in a contract role focused on shaping and sustaining a strong remote-first culture. As we continue to grow across continents and disciplines, we need a dedicated professional to ensure our internal processes scale with integrity, empathy, and operational excellence. This role is central to recruiting, onboarding, supporting, and retaining top talent while maintaining compliance and a cohesive workplace experience for our distributed team.

You’ll partner directly with company leadership to manage hiring, benefits, compliance, and internal communications. You’ll help refine our documentation, policies, and tools while advocating for a thoughtful, people-first approach to systems and decisions. The ideal candidate has worked with globally distributed teams, understands the nuances of managing contractors and full-time employees across borders, and is comfortable setting up HR infrastructure for early-stage companies.

This is a contract to full-time, remote position.

Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end recruitment operations, including job postings, candidate tracking, interview coordination, and onboarding.
  • Maintain HR documentation, employment agreements, and personnel records.
  • Coordinate contractor and vendor management, including verification, compliance, and renewals.
  • Administer benefits programs, time-off tracking, and payroll coordination in partnership with external platforms (e.g., Deel, Gusto).
  • Ensure compliance with applicable labor laws, regulations, and classification policies across jurisdictions.
  • Facilitate internal feedback loops, performance review cycles, and team health surveys.
  • Champion employee engagement and remote culture development through systems, events, and communications.
  • Support offboarding, exit interviews, and documentation processes.

Qualification

  • 3+ years of experience in Human Resources, People Operations, or Talent roles, preferably in a remote or distributed organization.
  • Familiarity with HRIS tools, remote-first platforms (e.g., Deel, Notion, Gusto, BambooHR), and international contractor management.
  • Knowledge of global employment regulations, contractor classification, and labor compliance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create clear policies and guide employees.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • SHRM, PHR, or similar HR certification.
  • Prior experience building people systems for early-stage or high-growth technology companies.
  • Experience with OKRs, performance systems, or workplace tooling integrations (e.g., Slack, Notion, Jira).
  • Passion for workplace culture, inclusion, and well-being.
