As Director of Climate & Head of Neural Earth Climate Observatory, you will lead the integration of climate science, geospatial analytics, and artificial intelligence into transformative risk assessment products. You will set the vision, strategy, and technical standards for climate risk analytics, translating complex environmental insights into scalable, market-ready solutions that shape decisions across industries.
This is a senior leadership role that bridges science, engineering, product, and market strategy—ideal for a visionary leader who thrives in the dynamic environment of an early-stage organization.
Key Responsibilities
• Strategic Leadership – Define and drive the technical strategy for climate risk analytics, ensuring alignment across science, engineering, and product teams.
• Innovation & Product Development – Design and oversee the creation of cutting-edge climate hazard models, AI-powered analytics, and geospatial intelligence platforms.
• Data & Platform Architecture – Architect scalable geospatial analytics systems and establish technical standards for data engineering, quality assurance, and operational workflows.
• Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration – Work closely with customers, product managers, scientists, and engineers to ensure end-to-end integration from research to commercial deployment.
• Machine Learning and AI – Work closely with customers, product managers, scientists, and engineers to develop and deploy remote sensing and Earth Observation algorithms, APIs, and data pipelines for AI/ML.
• Thought Leadership – Serve as the organization’s subject matter expert in climate hazards, natural disasters, and environmental data, shaping industry perspectives.
• Team Building & Mentorship – Lead, mentor, and inspire multidisciplinary teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and impact.
• Commercialization – Translate scientific insights into differentiated, market-ready climate risk products that drive adoption across sectors such as insurance, finance, real estate, population health, infrastructure, defense, and policy.
Required Qualifications
• Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Earth Sciences, Climate Science, Geospatial Data Science, or a related technical field.
• Proven subject matter expertise in natural hazards, climate processes, and environmental data products.
• 7-10+ years in technical leadership roles with a demonstrated track record of building and deploying analytics platforms.
• Advanced geospatial analysis and data engineering skills, including PostGIS, cloud-native architectures, and large-scale data processing pipelines.
• Experience architecting scalable, production-grade analytics systems and leading high-performance engineering teams.
• Demonstrated ability to take scientific research from concept to fully deployed commercial products.
• Experience in early-stage organizations and comfort with the ambiguity and pace of startup environments.
• Strong systems thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex, multi-dimensional challenges.
Preferred Experience
• Experience integrating AI/ML with geospatial data for climate risk modeling.
• Familiarity with regulatory and market drivers for climate risk products in insurance, finance, and infrastructure.
• Proven track record of influencing industry standards or contributing to open-source geospatial or climate data initiatives
